Is my baby ready for pre-school?

Pre-school is the initial step of the schooling of a kid. Usually, pre-schools take the admission of kids when they turn 2 or 2.5 years of age but it doesn’t really mean your kid gets ready before for the pre-school. Pre-school helps to develop important social skills in children. With the proper guidance in his/her initial stage your child could develop easily.

To determine that is your child ready to begin with pre-school or not is very simple if you look for certain signs. These signs are very easy to notice and help you let you know that is your child ready for the pre-school at the correct time. It is very obvious that all the signs are not easy to find immediately and may not be present at the same time but you can always make your child learn that habit.

1. Is your child able to spend time alone?

Small children are attached to their mothers and so they often suffer from anxiety separation. And this separation anxiety happens because they were never before left alone to spend time for such a long duration, such situations can be difficult enough to handle initially. However, if your child is comfortable to stay alone then it would be very easy for the child to adjust in the pre-school and not upset the other students there. If you are not sure of any of the things then you can try to let your child stay initially with a baby sitter and spend day with him. It will help you make sure that is your child comfortable staying alone or not.

2. Is your child ready with his/her potty training?

The potty training is very important for the kids because it is a very common requirement in the pre-schools that your child should be potty trained. Such requirement makes it easier for the child to enjoy in his/her pre-school comfortably and avoid any sort of embarrassment from going in their pants all the time. And it is very common that accidents might happen when the child does it unintentionally. Therefore you and your child both will feel very comfortable if trained before.

3. Can your child concentrate on a certain task for a longer period of time?

The main motive of yours when you send your child to a pre-school is that he/she is able to learn something. So the concentration factor is an essential requirement that will help you ensure that your child is able to concentrate on the tasks provided in pre-school. And you also need to make sure that the child is able to concentrate for a longer period of time. Usually, the tasks at pre-school are of fifteen to twenty minutes long only. So it would be easy for you if your child is able to concentrate on what is being taught in class without getting distracted.

4. Is your child comfortable to interact with the other children around?

It is very obvious that when your child goes to school then he/she will get many other people to interact with. So it is necessary to see if your child is comfortable with the other people to interact instead of getting angry and to start fighting. To help you make sure about this, you can socialize your child as often as possible. It will help the child to study in school and share his things with others and also ask all of his doubts comfortably with teacher.

5. Does your child have enough stamina to stay in school?

School days might look very long to a lot of kids who are not used to be active for such a long duration. So for this, you have to make sure that the stamina of your child is enough to get him/her through the day without getting tired. This is needed as the children who get tires easily often become cranky or angry many times which can lead to calls at your home.

6. Make sure that your child is emotionally ready

There many things to consider for the emotional well being of your child to. It may be hard for the child to say goodbye in the starting few days to the parent while going to school. Your child may cry the entire day or might not even get ready for the school program.
Many parents say that it is only about the first few days that the children cry and after a week they become normal. This happens because after a week they start making friends at the school and become comfortable with the environment.

7. Does your child follow directions?

The pre-schools are strict enough and expect the child to follow certain rules and regulations. Students in pre-school are asked to clean up their area, follow the table rules while eating, they are asked to walk in line with the rest class and other small jobs. If your child is not able to follow the instructions then you can try asking him/her at home. This would help you make you ensure that is he/she ready or not. You ask the child to complete some small jobs at home like helping you pick up the spoons and plates and bring some things from the other room and other works.

8. Are you able to understand what your child wishes to say?

A three-year-old child usually expected to say a lot many words and speak fluent enough which is understandable by the people. It is a necessary requirement for the kid that people are able to understand what he/she is saying. Make your child able to say a few sentences which will help them in their pre-school.
If any sort of speech issues you feel your child have then you can refer to a pediatrician. The pediatrician would help you guide properly that how you can make your child speak fluently.
