Practices to make sure your baby has a sound sleep? Sleeping issues with newborn babies?

If you are tired of staying awake the whole day with your baby then you are at the right place to get solutions. Nights without sleep are the worst passage for most of the new parents. But there’s no need to worry as you can help your baby sleep well.

When the baby is born, during his first 2-3 months it is very necessary to make the right schedule for his/her sleep and food. It is suggested to feed your baby in almost every two hours as it would keep his stomach full and help him/her grow. Also, you should allow the baby to sleep around 10 to 18 hours a day and slowly make him/her aware of the difference between day and night. A baby’s sleep is different from an adult’s sleep and so you need to follow some daily guides and routines so that the baby can sleep and develop.

Make your baby’s body sync with the 24-hour day –

Many babies don’t have a schedule for their sleep. They sleep at any moment they feel tired. Try to wake up your child with you every morning and bring him into the daylight. This will slowly help him/her recognize the difference between day and night. Get your baby distracted during day time so that he/she stays awake and sleeps well at night. And make sure you keep the baby away from all the blue lights at night as it affects brain production.

Keep the stomach happy –

Empty stomachs are one of the reasons that babies wake up during their sleep. The solution to it is feeding your baby frequently when he/she is awake so that they grow and thrive well. This would help to manage their nutrition cycles as well as sleep cycles.

Make sure to keep the baby calm before bedtime –

It’s very common that we go through all our notifications on the phone before sleep. But we don’t realize that these blue lights affect the sleep of the baby. And many parents try to their bedtime exciting by playing and talking energetic, but this does the reverse effect on the baby.

Follow a routine to make it easy for the baby to settle down –

Following a routine before bedtime would help the baby to sleep well. Try to spend less time with screens and be consistent with a routine (routine involves bathing, dressing up for the bed and reading a bedtime book to your baby). This will help the baby realize that it is the time when he/she has to sleep. Many types of research have proved this bedtime routine one of the best solutions.
During the day don’t allow the baby to sleep longer. Let the baby have short naps during the daytime and sleep on a stretch at night.

Try to note if the baby is sleeping early or late during the night –

Many parents overestimate the sleep requirements of their baby and make him/her force to sleep early. And on the other side, there are the ones who keep their baby awake for a long time which makes the baby irritable. Usually when the baby is very active many think he is tired so allow them to sleep and many think that as they are energetic so let them be awake.
You should always follow a routine because you can never predict accurately the behavior of babies.

Many parents are unable to realize that when the baby wants to be awakened –

When asleep, there are times when babies cry and get partially aroused. It might be possible that you think that he/she wants to be awake, instead, the baby just sleeps in a fitful and noisy way. You should avoid touching and talking to the baby when he wakes up during the night as it could wake them up and ruin both of your sleep.

Try to avoid your midnight care sessions –

There are many parents who keep on checking there baby if he/she requires anything. This could sometimes lead to infant sleep problems because by checking them so much and creating such excitement could make them awake during night time. In the early years, the baby gets easily disturbed bu talks and sort of noises around them.
Therefore keep the area dull and quiet where the baby is sleeping without any disturbance and excitement.

Try to be consistent with the requirements of the baby –

It is very common that parents might get frustrated and tired by running around the needs of the baby. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. When things don’t work out many parents start withdrawing from the baby. But it becomes very confusing for the baby and makes problems worse.

Is your baby sleeping too late in the afternoon? –

The bedtime sleep of the baby depends on how much duration the baby is asleep in the afternoon. If the baby sleeps a lot in the afternoon then he/she might find it difficult to sleep during the time as he/she has already fulfilled the requirement of sleep. Therefore it is required to manage the sleep cycles of your baby. Allow your baby to sleep for only particular hours during the day time and complete the rest of the sleep during bedtime.

Is your baby sound enough to self soothe himself? –

Many researchers have proven that almost every person wakes up during the night time, and many people don’t remember about them. So if your baby wakes up during the night them instead of considering him/her awake and pampering, you should allow the baby to sleep.

As the babies grow, that is, by the age of 6 months, start reducing the sleeping hours to 10 to11 hours a day. It becomes easier to recognize the sleep requirements of the baby as the baby gets into a routine for sleep. At this time the baby starts associating the bed with sleep.
